RuneScape F2p Pure Guide

There are several types of PKing (player killing) pures in the MMORPG Runescape. This guide details the types of pures and how to make them. There are many more F2p (free to play) pures then can be listed here, but these are the most common.

Mage pures can either use Fist of Guthix to train to level 59 Magic (when the highest level combat spell for F2p becomes available) or use this alternative method for training magic without gaining any Hitpoints experience. Mage pures with 59 Magic can hit up to 16's using Fire Blast while being fairly low leveled and having plenty of cash if they used FOG (and then sold the items they bought with their FOG tokens).

Mage pures are best used against defense pures and anyone wearing armor.

Strength pures are the most common type of pure in F2p RuneScape. Strength pures should train at the men in Edgeville until they have 30 attack and over 40 strength. It is suggested that Strength pures keep their defense at 1, some Strength pures opt to get their prayer level to 26 so that they can protect their scimitar in case they die. Once they have obtained 30 attack and 40 strength most Strength pures move on to Flesh Crawlers for training until they reach 45 combat (at about 40 attack and 60 strength). At this level Strength pures can go straight to PVP Worlds or Bounty Hunting or keep training until 50 attack and 70 strength.

Note: Some Strength pures choose to get 40 range after finishing their attack and strength training for extra hitpoints without gaining combat levels.

The Defense pure is the hardest pure to train and use in RuneScape. For Defense pures obtain a set of full iron armor and an iron dagger, at this point you have two choices. You can either train at the men in Edgeville, picking up the bones along the way and making a profit, or train at the Monks in the Monastery just west of Edgeville, allowing you to train without clicking for some time (called AFK training, however you should never actually leave your keyboard while doing any training as this is against RuneScape rules). Make sure when training your defense pure you are using the defense setting. Assuming you chose the profitable route of picking up bones, by 40 defense you should be able to afford rune armor.

45 Defense pures are former Strength pures who passed 70 combat and in order to be more effective decided to get 45 defense so they can use the Rune berserker shield while Bounty Hunting. 45 Defense pures are very good in no armor fights and can hit very high at a low level.

70/80 Defense pures are former Strength pures who have trained their Strength and Attack to 99 and have gotten 70 or 80 Defense. While this may sound less then optimal they do well against accounts with even 60 or 70 combat stats (either all 60 or 70 attack/strength/defense). After getting these levels you've taken your pure as far as it can go while still being classified a pure.

Range pures are one of the most common types of F2P pures in RuneScape. Similar to Strength pures they should train at the men in Edgeville until they achieve 40 Range and can wear dragonhide (at around 27 combat). After getting 40 Range most Range pures move to Flesh Crawlers until they reach over 60 range.

Note - It is recommend to Range pures to train with Iron arrows and PK with Mithril or Adamant arrows. Many Range pures will move on to become Range/2h pures.

Range/2h pures are arguably the best type of pure in F2p. Range/2h pures combine elements of both range pures and strength pures so read both the Strength Pure and Range Pure sections of this guide when making a Range/2h pure.

The reason the Range/2h pure is so popular is it's ability to hit your target twice in quick succession while PK (called combo-ing). Range/2h pures achieve this double hit by attacking the target with range and then switching to a 2H (two handed) sword when the target's Hitpoints are low to make the critical hit, killing the player.
